What is Wesleyan Bible
Bowl? I'm glad you asked! It's the greatest activity going for Wesleyan
youth who want the hair-raising, breath-taking, spine-tingling thrill
of competition at its best! It's exhilarating! It's exhausting!
It's exciting! It's just plain FUN!!!
Well, if you want the official definition,
here it is:
"Wesleyan Bible Bowl
is an exciting Bible quizzing program designed to stimulate spiritual
growth among youth of the Wesleyan Church. It seeks through the
medium of competition to place the Word of God into the minds,
hearts and lives of teenagers."
Yes, it does mean lots of concentrated study, memorization, learning,
and plain hard work, but the rewards are certainly worth it. Remember
that it's God's Word you're studying, and anything can happen
when one digs into His Word ... even miracles!
Very generous scholarships are also awarded to the winning teams
at the Area and General Level of competition.
WBB Includes:
-
Spending time studying the Bible. Each quizzer will need to spend
time studying and preparing for the next WBB match.
-
Completing lessons in the study book each week. Study books are available
for the book being studied. Each lesson includes: fill in
the blanks, short questions, observations, life applications.
questions to contemplate, fact finding mission and special
projects.
-
Memorizing selected passages for the book being studied. Many quizzers
also memorize other sections and some memorize the whole book.
The memory verses have to be learned word perfect. Even missing
a "and" or "the" can cause you to be wrong
in competition. But keep in mind that for life and ministry
word perfect is not required; that's only for quizzing.
-
Learning how to compete in a Christian way. District practice meets,
meets you set up with other churches, or even a match against
your church board or other adults provide an opportunity to
see how well you have learned and let you prepare for the
official district competition.
-
Making new friends. Practice quiz meets and the official district
competition provide an opportunity for teens to meet Christian
teens from other churches.
